Welcome to Class 5.
In Class 5 we aim to create a genuine enthusiasm for learning where children aim high in all they do. We support each other and we learn from our errors by sharing , discussing and consolidating them. We aim to plan creative, challenging and engaging lessons that spark our children's imagination. Educational visits and class ‘experience’ days are planned to engage children and drive our learning forward in the classroom.
We aim to teach a variety of topics, which offer a broad and balanced curriculum where class topic-based texts underpin much of our English work.
Visits and experiences are planned so the children have hands on experiences which lead their learning. Throughout the year they have the opportunity to: visit Bagshaw museum as part of our topic Pharaohs, Pyramids and Papyrus; design and create our own allotment with Mr Parkinson for our topic 'Let's Grow'; take part in a Tudor day where we dress up and complete Tudor activities in school; design a space suit and complete Space related activities as part of our ‘Space Day’; visit Waterton’s estate and explore the taxidermy at Wakefield One museum and take part in a ‘Mexican festival’ for our ‘Mayan civilisation’ topic in Summer 2.
We are confident that our engaging curriculum will lead to improved engagement from our pupils and lead them to achieve their true academic potential. Through problem solving and teamwork we aim to get children to think for themselves more and be resilient learners. Questions about the world around us are explored within lessons (as part of our topics) to develop curiosity and a questioning mind.
With the many opportunities and experiences to look forward to, Year 5 aim to enjoy our time in school and have fun whilst we learn.
