Our Vision: Every persons potential fulfilled. Wakefield Methodist School exists to help everyone become all that they can be. Our vision comes from the words of Jesus “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” Gospel of John, 10:10b
Welcome from the Headteacher
I am delighted to welcome you to Wakefield Methodist J, I & N School’s website. Hopefully this website gives you lots of information about the school, as well as a flavour of the wonderful school community we have built together.
We pride ourselves on the fact that we cherish children from a variety of backgrounds and with a range of needs. We currently have on roll 3 times more children with an Education and Health Care Plans as schools nationally and we are committed to ensuring our school is accessible to all and that all people within our school community reach their own unique potential.
Our commitment and principles are underpinned by the founder of Methodism, John Wesley’s Rule of Life.
‘Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can!’
As a staff team we have high expectations of children in all areas of school life and this has been rewarded with excellent attainment against national expectations in Foundation Stage, KS1 phonics and end of KS1 SATs. A big well done needs to go to all the children in school, parents and staff who are all vital in making these achievements possible.
Wakefield Methodist J, I & N School is on a journey to be outstanding. We were graded ‘Good' by OFSTED in 2018.
The inspector visited all classes and was impressed by the teaching and learning that was taking place,
"During visits to lessons. I saw pupils thriving in stimulating classrooms where learning was a shared and exciting adventure."
He also recognised that we have:
"created a culture of high expectations that is shared by all at the school."
The inspector was also particularly impressed by the caring and positive attitude of the children.
"Your pupils are happy at school. Pupils were particularly keen to share with me the importance they attach to mutual respect and to understanding what it is like to be somebody else."
As a school we are extremely proud of these judgements but we are determined to continue to move the school forward and improve our educational provision. Our team care passionately for our children and continually strive to achieve the very best for them, whether it be educationally, morally, spiritually or physically. The fulfilment of this aim will be seen in the children, who will develop both a love for learning and for each other. As John Wesley said 'We watch over one another in love'.
As educators we want all our children to feel happy and secure in school and every effort is made by all the staff to create a positive atmosphere where each child is shown respect and care, allowing them to develop their own unique personalities. We strive to create a learning environment where every child is able to reach their full potential and achieve the highest of standards. An environment where mistakes are seen as positive steps towards every child reaching their learning goals and excellence and their efforts are celebrated together.
I have been a teacher here for more than 20 years and feel incredibly proud to work with such a close, committed and hardworking team at a school with such fantastic children and excellent parental support. As Headteacher I am excited for what the future holds for Wakefield Methodist J, I & N School. I look forward to be able to continue working with the whole school community to move the school forward in our pursuit of excellence. I am positive that with the combined efforts of our fantastic team, children, parents and governors, we can all contribute to build on all the excellent work that has already been done.
